Can you guess what place is this?

Headless Dancers

Headless Dancers

This is one of the carvings I photographed. Its on the walls of a mandap like structure within Qutub Minar. It was said that this structure was an erstwhile palace/temple of the Chauhans and when the Mughals conquered it, they beheaded the dancers carved on the pillars and around.

Rock Fort

Rock Fort

This is a fort like structure made of rocks. There is a single entry hole and a couple of holes at higher level. Those who know rock climbing can try out to get in.

Tamilnadu in China in Singapore

Tamilnadu in China in Singapore

Oh well, at least for a few minutes I was not feeling homesick! The sight of this temple transported me back home. Built circa 1827, Sri Mariamman temple is one of the most popular sights in Singapore (in addition to many more temples!) Situated bang in the middle of China Town, this temple is maintained beautifully and IS a sight worth seeing!

Bangalore-Mysore highway

Bangalore-Mysore highway

In March of 2006 I took the highway from Bangalore to Mysore and was struck by the way the highway had cut right through small towns and villages. This image speaks to me of the way technological progress can sometimes wreak havoc on the lives of those in its path.

Chicago's Millenium Park

Chicago's Millenium Park

This is a reflection in a large chrome sculpture at Millenium Park in Chicago. I took the picture on my honeymoon in 2006. That's me in the middle with the camera, of course.

Many-headed, many-handed warrior...

Many-headed, many-handed warrior...

I found many strange figurines in the tower of the temple at Nallur (a small Tanjorian village). Here is one snapshot. See the many-headed, many-handed figure? The villager I asked was not sure who that was, whether a God of the Hindu pantheon or simply a figment of the sculptor's imagination. He guessed that it might be a manifestation of Lord Karthikeya, the warrior God, the general of the divine army.
